BOW MUG DISCOVERED IN BRIDGNORTH SELLS FOR £600 AT AUCTION

22nd NOVEMBER 2011

A rare 18th century English porcelain mug, discovered at an antiques valuation day in Bridgnorth earlier this year, sold for £600 at auction in Shrewsbury.

The Bow mug, which was bought at an antique fair for £50 more than 20 years ago, was identified by Halls’ fine art director Jeremy Lamond at the valuation day for Hope House held at Bridgnorth Cricket Club.

Decorated with two ferocious dragons and their footprints, the mug went under the hammer a Halls’ £100,000 auction of antique furniture, ceramics, clocks and works of art in Shrewsbury.

Mr Lamond said he was delighted with the price achieved for the mug, which had a cracked base. It was a good example of the valuable ceramics waiting to be discovered in Shropshire.
